It may seem that nothing is happening with the programme of parish separation but things are going ahead behind the scenes. The revised profile for new parish of St Cuthbert, Blaydon has been submitted and will inform the advert for the new clergy appointment to serve the parishes of High Spen, Rowlands Gill and Blaydon. The new appointee will live in Blaydon Rectory.
The congregation of the new parish of Holy Trinity Swalwell have met and discussed their future and took the outcomes to an Away Day with St Mary’s Whickham. Churchwardens and Rev Brian Howell have had another meeting with clergy from the East of Derwent Group, Whickham, Dunston, Hillside and Swalwell. This was the third meeting of this group and will be followed by a meeting on the 6th March at St Mary’s Rectory with Swalwell PCC members.
On the 26th February, the existing parish Standing Committee met with the Archdeacon of Sunderland to review progress of the Pastoral Measure, the legal document which formally describes the separation of the Parish of Blaydon and Swalwell, including how the PCC have decided to share the parish finances.
So quite a lot has been taking place. Currently, the process of separation is expected to be concluded by September this year.
Churchwardens and clergy at either end of the parish will be happy to discuss anything that is unclear as we go forward, so do please ask….Ed
